The fifth annual Rondo Music Festival took place this summer, with great success, at Southern Vermont College in Historic Bennington, Vermont.

Rondo Bennington Music Festival takes place annually in Southern Vermont, famous for its natural beauty and healthy environment. Southern Vermont College is located in Historic Bennington on over 370 acres of private land. The Rondo Music Festival program consists of five weeks of intensive music study and performances as well as recreational activities. Each participant has two individual lessons on their major instrument and two lessons of chamber music per week. Performances include a series of four public concerts at the Everett Mansion, located on the college site, given by gifted students and faculty from the Julliard, Manhattan and Mannes Schools of Music. Many of the musicians are winners of Young Artists Competitions and Gold Medallists of International Competitions.

Albert Markov, internationally renowned violinist, composer, conductor and teacher is the Artistic Director of the Rondo Music Festival. As a teacher at the Manhattan School of Music, he guides young musicians in their studies, whether they aspire to be professional or non-professional musicians. Mr Markov has an unfailing philosophy of self-improvement, which he continually encourages his students to adopt. This stresses the importance of good health as the top priority. Students exercise everyday, have organized mealtimes and a daily work schedule. Study is an essential part of the students' day taking the form of lessons, private practice and/or music workshops. General musical and cultural education is also promoted. This year we visited the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Mr Markov also actively acknowledges the importance of balancing study with socializing and recreational activities.

Southern Vermont College is the ideal place for musical and recreational activities. The Festival's informal atmosphere is established in a big musical family of students and the faculty helps to keep alive a unique spirit of creativity. This creativity continues into its sixth year in July/August 2004 with exciting new venues for performance as well as the established concert series at Everett Mansion.
